Global warming is an increase in the temperature and the change in the world’s climate during the last century, resulting from an increase of carbon dioxide, methane, and some other gases in the atmosphere. These gases are known as greenhouse gases. As a result, glaciers are melting, adding fresh water to oceans, which makes some coastal countries endangered by floods.
Scientists are divided into those who say that it is a normal change in the weather, and the planet must face cold periods and hot periods such as this. This makes a lot of the companies and factories that produce pollution feel better, and allow them to escape their responsibilities for the increase of the temperature. However, most scientists disagree strongly with this, and say that it is not a normal case. They say that the ozone layer is damaged because of the carbon dioxide and some other gases which are produced from the cars, factories and power plants which pollute the atmosphere.

Causes of global warming
Carbon dioxide (CO2) is one of the main causes of global warming. CO2 is coming from burned fossils, cars, trucks, airplanes, building structures and factories. These are the main things that produce most of the CO2 in the atmosphere. Methane comes after CO2 by the amount, but methane is more than 20 times as effective as CO2 in holding heat inside the earth. Also nitrous oxide (NO2) known as “laughing gas” is counted as one of the causes of global warming. It is a colorless and nonflammable gas. Nitrous oxide is naturally produced by oceans and rainforests. Nylon, nitric acid production and fertilizers in agriculture are man-made sources of nitrous oxide. Sunlight helps in breaking down the NO2, but CO2 is interrupting this operation. Naturally, plants help in the CO2 cycle, because they take CO2 and convert it to oxygen. But humans are cutting down trees for wood needs and increasing the wood supply. This operation is named deforestation.

Deforestation
One of the main greenhouse gases is CO2. Naturally a plant grows by taking in CO2 and converting it to oxygen. This process helps allot in decreasing the CO2 in the atmosphere, because trees can store a large amount of CO2 in their structures. A tree can absorb 13 pounds of CO2, and 2.8 tons of CO2 can be absorbed by only one acre in a forest. However, when the plant dies it releases the CO2 to the air. The procedure of cutting wood to increase the wood supply, and the unexpected weather conditions which cause fire and burn huge areas of the forests, is helping in the increase of the CO2 to the atmosphere, and it disturbs the balance of the natural CO2 cycle in earth. Now the earth is facing a problem in the loss of the forests, which means that there are fewer trees to absorb the CO2 from the air.

Effects of global warming
The heat which is trapped inside the earth because of the green house gases is seriously affecting the nature environment and damaging the earth’s natural processes, and also affecting human life. The main effect which is causing a lot of other effects is the climate change during the past century. The earth is facing a quick rise in temperature. Without heat trapping, the earth’s surface would be 60 degrees Fahrenheit colder that it is now. As a result, glaciers are melting, adding fresh water to oceans and increasing the sea level. This result is putting a lot of countries which are lying on the coast line in danger of floods. Also the glaciers are good reflexives for the sun rays, and they are not allowing the heat to be absorbed by the ground. The effects of the global warming are not stopping here. There are more and more effects like the changes in agricultural yields, tornadoes and storms, spreading disease, earlier spring arrival, heavy rain and snowfalls, and producing fire in forests.

The effects of global warming on human’s life
Global warming has a great effect on the human life in many different ways. Some countries are facing really serious heat waves that people cannot resist, such as in India. The heat waves cause the death of many people in India, especially in the poor villages. Storms, tornadoes, heavy rain and floods on the coastal areas are putting a lot of human lives in many different countries around the world at serious risk, and that happens as a result of global warming. Air is the most important thing for humans, and global warming is affecting air quality a lot. Global warming is also helping to spread disease. Diseases are especially spread through mosquitoes because these insects can carry malaria in the bodies and transfer it from one person to another. Mosquitoes can live and reproduce in hot and humid areas. Normally high places are cold, but they are becoming hotter right now because of global warming. This will not only allow mosquitoes to live and spread diseases in the low areas, but also in the high areas.

Global warming in UAE
I was interested in how global warming relates to my country so I did some research. I figured out after the research I have done that the UAE has one of the highest per capita emissions in the world, as mentioned in the reports I found during the research. According to the first state of the Environment report, fossil fuels are the main source of air pollution in the UAE, followed by electricity power and transportation. Nitrogen dioxide levels have increased above the natural level in many parts in Abu Dhabi city, Al Ain and Ruwais. Also the air quality is damaged in some areas like Mafraq, Shahama, Samha, Sas Al Nakhl and Al Ain. Rising in the sea level, more flooding, hot weather, increasing the salt levels in the sea and damaging the sea life and nature are all effects of global warming in the UAE.

Individual actions in the U.A.E.
There are many decisions that can be taken, and actions to be done that may help to reduce global warming in the U.A.E. As a beginning, each individual must know how serious this problem is and how dangerous this situation can be, and learn how to solve it, and reduce pollution and heat. Companies should be involved to solve this problem too. The government must take the first action and use media and newspapers to spread awareness, and work on campaigns to explain the problem to companies and individuals, and involve them in the correction of this problem, and that may help to reduce the problem of global warming in our country. Individuals living in the U.A.E. have to get involved to solve this problem. They should reduce their use of cars, and use public transportation instead. Families also can use one car for the whole family, instead of using a separate car for each family member. Citizens should reduce their use of electricity as much as possible, because it is one of the causes of global warming.
